Santa Fe Trail

Santa Fe Trail (sh. Staza Santa Fea) je američki crno-bijeli vestern film snimljen 1940. godine u režiji Michaela Curtiza. Protagonisti, koje tumače Errol Flynn i Ronald Reagan, su J.E.B. StuartJeb Stuart i George Armstrong Custer, južnjački i sjevernjački pitomac West Pointa koji su nakon diplomiranja 1854. godine poslani na vojnu službu u teritoriju Kansas. Radnja prikazuje kako tamo ulaze u sukob sa fanatičnim abolicionistima na čelu sa Johnom Brownom (čiji lik tumači Raymond Massey), koji su, nastojeći ukinuti ropstvo, izazvali masovno krvoproliće.

Santa Fe Trail je predstavljao jedan od najpopularnijih i najuspješnijih filmova u karijeri budućeg predsjednika Reagana, ali je kasnije postao predmetom žestokih kritika ne samo zbog izvrtanja i ignoriranja historijskih činjenica (Stuart i Custer, koji će se proslaviti na suprotnim stranama u građanskom ratu, se u stvarnosti nikada nisu sreli) nego i zbog prikazivanja boraca za ukidanje ropstva kao "subverzivaca" i fanatičnih terorista, odnosno da je građanski rat bio tragedija koja se mogla i morala izbjeći. Takav stav se ponekad tumači kontekstom Drugog svjetskog rata u koji SAD još uvijek nisu ušle, odnosno nastojanjem Jacka Warnera, šefa studija Warner Bros. da promovira koncept nacionalnog zajedništva, odnosno napravi film koji bi prikazom zbivanja pred građanski rat zadovoljio i publiku na Sjeveru i Jugu.

Ponekad se zbog sličnosti teme, likova i Flynnovog nastupa Santa Fe Trail miješa sa filmom They Died with Their Boots On snimljenim sljedeće godine.
